Reflecting on the ​Interim Show

This was great experience building the wooden peep-through board, as I hadn’t used the wood workshops on campus. I felt more confident that I would be able to transfer the skills to my degree show if need be.

My initial proposal was to construct an interactive ‘false-front’ (loosely based on a classic seaside peep-through), I aim to have the dimensions at the standard mdf board size, at a rough estimate would be around 1 ⅓ metres wide by 3 metres tall. The board will have a painting on the front and at the back there will be two steps for access to the ‘peep through’. The structure will be freestanding and built to withstand public interaction (no toppling, no splinters). I also intended to have 3 tablet monitors laid into the board so that I could have looping animations on each

I wanted to create a piece that explores the visuals of the intimate interaction between the individual and their phones, it was largely inspired by my essay about the how inherent selfie-taking is in public spaces and gallery spaces. I wanted the pink to be an exaggerated invitation to be part of the piece. I enjoy religious iconography being used to depict small everyday instances.
